Behind Every Deed, a Story: Property and People in Georgian Richmond
What do 2000 property deeds tell us about life in Georgian Richmondshire? Quite a lot, as it turns out: including that women were far more involved in the local property market than anyone has previously recognised. In this lecture, Dr Catherine Ryan will share findings from her doctoral research into the North Riding Register of Deeds, and bring to life the families, lawyers and networks that shaped Richmond between 1736 and 1783.
