An Abomination of Desolation: Richmond Workhouse, 1780 - 1968
In this Richmondshire Museum Summer Lecture, Steve Erskine will describe how, in the midst of the prosperous market town of Richmond, sat its workhouse, governed by the strict rules of the Poor Law. He will explain how far the workhouse regime helped or actually worsened the problem of poverty in Richmond. Admission £5 on the door.
