Guided walk: Mining on and around Grinton Moor led by Alan & Judith Mills. 9.45am for 10am start. Meet at the large layby at the junction of the Grinton/Leyburn and Grinton/Redmire Roads, SE 0462 9778. We will visit bales sites, hushes, Grinton Smelt Mill and associated water management system – dams, leats – and Grinton How level. Possibly California Level, Lime Kilns and Sow Kilns depending on time and ground conditions. Approx three hours; bring a drink and snack. Some inclines and descents and rough terrain in places so a walking stick/pole useful, but nothing particularly difficult. Numbers limited so book with Anne at swaagwalks@gmail.com to reserve a place.
